Daughter of Jonah and Margaret Taylor
Growing up in Louisburg, I learned from my parents, Jonah and
Margaret Wilder Taylor, about hard work and service to
community. My father served on the Town Council and my mother
was a dedicated volunteer quietly helping many in the community. Daddy
worked for American Mutual Liability Company, and Mother raised
registered Shetland ponies.
Student
In high school, I learned the value of teamwork as a member of the
basketball team. I was also editor of my high school newspaper,
"School Daze." Through hard work and discipline and a love of
learning, I earned the honor of senior class valedictorian. I
continued my education at Duke University and then received my degree
from Meredith College in 1965.

Teacher
I taught Language Arts and North Carolina History in the 7th and
8th grades in
the Franklin County Public Schools from 1965 to 1972. Continuing
my commitment to our public schools, I was elected to the Franklin
County Board of Education in 1972 and served two terms. I have an abiding love for our young people, and my experience in
the classroom left me with a high regard for the role of those who
teach our children.
I was
honored to receive the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce's
"Citizen of the Year" award for 1980, in
recognition for my service to the community in education and as
downtown Louisburg revitalization chairman

Parent and Grandparent
I grew up in the Louisburg Baptist Church, and after my
marriage,
became an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Louisburg. I
am a lector, busy member of the altar guild, and former Sunday school
teacher.
I am proud of my three sons, Sonny, Hill, and Stuart and my
two grandsons, Felix and Henry, and am pleased to have two wonderful
daughters-in-law, Willa and Julie. And we all love "Dawg"
and our new mixed beagle "Hunter."
