Website Content
This is a user-centered website, and as such, is intended to
represent Lucy's accessible leadership style in an online medium.
The emphasis of this website is on providing the substantive
content that visitors to the site wish to find. Lucy's web
narrative is written in the first person and in her own words as a means of sharing her
views and experiences with the people of her District.
In keeping with the
neighborly nature of this site, a generous number of photographs and
clippings are included to make the
user's visit enjoyable as well as informative.
Design Goals
In the design and development of this website, the principles of
usability and accessibility have been followed to the extent
feasible. Design choices have been made with the objective of
creating a website that users will find easy to use. The
functionality of this website has been tested prior to publication,
using a variety of hardware, browsers, and Internet connection
speeds.
The design of this website is intentionally one of simplicity. The
organization and navigation of this site is constructed to be clear,
consistent, and easy to understand. The frequent use of
"headline" subheadings and the presence of "white
space" is intended to make online reading more efficient and less
frustrating. Efforts have been made to minimize download time, and for the most part,
the web pages are of moderate
length.
Because they can present obstacles to usability, frames,
two-columned text, moving text, and horizontal scrolling have
been avoided. For those who use text
readers or who surf the Internet with graphics turned off on their
browsers, alternative textual descriptions have been provided for photographs and other images.
